Here’s a great marketing story:
A farmer put up a sign that read “Tomatoes, 25¢ ea.–three for a dollar.”
All day long, customers came to the booth exclaiming: “Don’t be ridiculous! I should get four for a dollar!”
Meekly the farmer capitulated and packaged four tomatoes. The hardware seller at next booth over had been watching this happen again and again and finally asked the farmer, “Aren’t you going to fix the mistake on your sign?”
“What mistake?” the farmer asked. “Before I put up that sign no one ever bought more than one tomato.”
Selling is more art than science. Many times we miss profitable opportunities because we are too scientific. 2+2=4 is a valid mathematical equation but in reality sometimes 2+2=5. Have some fun with your marketing. 25¢ ea. – three for a dollar just may open up a new and profitable option for what you’re selling. This is a great time of year to experiment with pricing options.
Question: What could you do to creatively price what you’re selling?
