Many of us dream about quitting our jobs and starting our own businesses – about finally getting out of the 9-to-5 rat race and working for ourselves. Starting your own business allows you to set your own schedule, to make your own money, and perhaps to achieve financial independence.

However, as much as many of us would love to start our own business, fear or circumstance may hold us back. With the beginning of the new year, it is the perfect time to reevaluate your goals and to consider how you can make your dreams come true this year. Here are just a few of the ways that you can finally quit your job and follow your dream this year:

Do Your Research

Fear of the unknown is what holds many of us back. You can conquer this fear by learning what you don’t know. Do all the research you can to prepare your business plan and to find out what you need to do to move forward.

Read as much as you can, find mentors and experts in your community, and ask all the questions you can. The more prepared you are, the more confident you will feel and the more successful you are likely to be.

Get a Partner

Maybe you don’t have the money you need to start your business. Or maybe you don’t have the expertise to run some aspect of it. This is where a partner can help. You can split the financial burden, and you can each contribute your strengths and expertise where they will do the most good, helping your business to become more successful.

Draw on your professional contacts, and talk with your friends and family. You may find that you already know someone else who is trying to make the same dream come true this year.

Start Part-Time

Many people worry about just quitting their job and having no safety net or stable income to support them. You can mitigate this risk and still get your business off the ground by simply starting part-time.

Open your business online, and dedicate yourself to growing in when you are home in the evenings and on the weekends. As the business grows (and so does your income), you can cut back your hours at your job and quit completely.

Outsource Some Work

When time is limited, your dream of opening your own business doesn’t have to be. There are numerous ways to outsource your work online through freelance writers, web designers, call centers, and much more. In many cases, you can hire freelancers for a fraction of the cost of traditional employees.

Just Do It

There will always be reasons why the time isn’t right to start your business. There will always be excuses fueled by fear or other circumstances. The best way to overcome these is to just do it. There will never be a perfect time or perfect circumstances. You just have to prepare as much as you can and then make the best of the situation. If you are dedicated enough, you can find a way to make your business a reality.

Make this your year for finally starting your business and making your dreams a reality!
