As you know, Web 2.0 is all about the conversation. Web 1.0 was an early stage of the conceptual evolution of the internet, and was centered around the “traditional media platform thinking.” Socially, users could only view webpages but not contribute to the content of the webpages. So, think about how you could only view a TV commercial, talk show host, performing artist or speaker back in the 90’s but today through the internet you can interact with them.
But Web 2.0 allow users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast to websites where people are limited to the passive viewing of content.
Through all of that the key to victory in the web 2.0 world is ………Free Information.
This may seem simple but as I said in my post “The Generosity Guide to Social Media”
“To understand this notion of generosity—the act of giving something away without excepting anything in return. This isn’t an easy act. Generosity is not what we’re trained to do, but in this world of social media that natural instinct to think of yourself first isn’t respected.”
Today giving away free information is the key to victory and also the competitive advantage we all have. But, this is so far away from what we’ve been taught and our genetic disposition that people think it’s awkward.
If you take nothing else away from this post know this: to win today, tomorrow and next year in business, generosity needs to be your guide.
Question: What free information are you making available?
